Stylish, truly multi focus, and comfortable!Love these new Foster Grant Multifocus Glasses! After seeing these advertised on television, I decided to give them a try and they are wonderful!I am new to having to wear reading glasses - everyone jokes how it's a birthday gift around 50 years old yet it's no gift. While some of the glasses can be stylish, I find them to be annoying and uncomfortable. Annoying to take on and off and then have to carry them for the few minutes that I'll need them again - maybe just to read a menu. Uncomfortable because I don't need them most of the time so I end up putting them on my head and then they are just an uncomfortable headband. Well, these are different!!!Foster Grant Multifocus are a different kind of reading glass.1. They are stylish. To be honest, I ordered 4 different style in order to choose which ones to buy for my husband and myself. I chose the Conan style and he chose the Sawyer style. All were stylish just each a bit different.2. They are honestly multi focus so I don't need to take them on and off. For me the best part of this is to be able to type on my laptop, turn my head to read a piece of fine print on paper and then return to the computer screen to type. Ahhh! No more taking my glasses on and off again and again. I probably won't walk around in them yet that brings me to the next point.3. They are comfortable. While the multifocus says that you can leave them on to be able to look straight ahead for distance, I didn't find this the most comfortable - while not blurry, it was just a bit straining. So...I put them up on my head. Wow! Foster Grant has wonderful spring arms so they are a very comfortable head band! yeah! While not the least expensive, I am very very happy with our new Foster Grant Multifocus glasses and will be buying more!I appreciate other purchasers' reviews and that is why I choose to write them now. Amazon reviews help me choose which products to buy. I sort product choices by Average Customer Review to help decide which item to choose. I didn't find a lot of reviews for Foster Grant Multifocus as they are quite new. I have found customer reviews to be very helpful and hope that I am paying it forward by providing this review. Thank you to Foster Grant for making this nice product and to Amazon for selling it and shipping it so quickly. I love Amazon! 5BEST reading glasses I've ever owned! These multifocal progressive glasses are exactly what I have been looking for. I am an author and I sit at my computer many hours each day. I wear contacts for distance vision but they leave me with little closeup vision. These Foster Grant glasses are perfect for me. I bought the 2.0 power version, which gives me 2.0x at the bottom, 1.5x in the middle, and 1.0 at the top. I look over the top of the glasses to see in the distance. There are no lines in these progressive lenses to interrupt my vision. I simply have to tilt my head up to get stronger magnification. The 1.0x part of the lens lets me sit from one to three feet away from my computer monitor, with perfect vision for writing my books. As I glance down at the keyboard, the 2.0x portion kicks in and makes all the keyboard keys nice and sharp. If I hold something up to look at it at arm's length, the 1.5x area makes arm's length vision very sharp. The progressive areas are wide enough to work well, without edge blurring. The quality of the frames and hard plastic lenses are exceptional, easily as good as any prescription glasses I've purchased. The hinges have the expansion springs that let you spread the frames apart without breaking them while you are putting the glasses on. The springs hold the glasses snugly against my face without squeezing too much. There is a mild tint on the lenses that seems to remove a touch of blue, warming up what you see a tad. Probably good for night reading. The full-size nose pieces are very comfortable and are adjustable by bending. For the price, these are the best reading glasses I have ever owned. I highly (and I mean highly) recommend these for writers, computer programmers, or anyone else who has to sit at a computer all day and needs a little magnification to aid aging eyes. I'm going to buy an extra pair of these to keep for the future, in case this particular frame style is discontinued some day. Great job, Foster Grant! 5Comfortable but a narrow frame for very near and far focal changesThese are a narrow frame. I read a prior 1 star review on these frames which I believe to be a result of the narrow frame (Sawyer style) vs a wider frame style (Conan style) with the narrow style requiring more head movement to optimize the progressive lense variance vs the wider, or taller, style requiring less head movement. I have both styles (ugh, a pair in every room these days) and find I prefer the Conan (wider) style when at the computer, staff meetings in small conference rooms or other venues where objects are closer. But I find the Sawyer style great for driving or times when switching between very near objects and more distant objects that require only minute up and down movements due to the narrowness of lense and thus a more narrow delination of the magnification. Both styles serve a purpose and the quality is much better than the multi-pack singles. If you're like me, then the Sawyer is great for the car, fishing, hunting, theater and maybe another style like the Conan for more closer activities. 4Quality issues; not recommended.I really liked the "multifocus" feature of these glasses, but after going through two pair of them, I can only call them a complete fail. With the first pair, I found that the nose pads were uncomfortable on me. These are made to be adjustable for different wearers, so I made several attempts to bend the support wires so they'd fit better. Not only was I not able to improve the comfort, but after a couple of weeks one of the pads fell off. I got a replacement pair, and thinking that my attempts to adjust the pads had caused one of them to fall off, this time I didn't touch them. My previous adjustments hadn't done any real good, and since I don't wear reading glasses all day long, the discomfort wasn't too bad.But after owning the second pair for another couple of weeks, again one of the nose pads fell off.So I'm off to find some multifocus reading glasses from another manufacturer. I strongly recommend you do the same, rather than buying these. 1Performed exactly as I wanted them too!I recently had cataract surgery on both eyes but prior to the surgery I was wearing multifocal contact lens so I did not need reading glasses. The surgery took the ability to read away but my far vision is almost perfect. So I had purchased some cheap readers but was so tired of taking them on and off and peering over them to watch tv. I researched these on Amazon and read thru many many reviews. Knowing that all people are different and not everyone likes the same thing, I still decided I would give these a try and was highly anticipating their arrival. When the mail person delivered them I immediately opened them and was actually surprised that they were as substantial as the are. By that I mean they feel like a regular pair of glasses. Anyway I put them on and to my surprise they did exactly what I wanted them to do. The three different levels of vision was a great idea! I can see perfectly for reading and when I look thru them to watch tv they are fine. Now I will say that looking at the tv without the glasses is sharper due to the surgery but not so much that I feel I need to remove the glasses to watch tv. I even drive with them on. They don't distort my far vision to where I can't read signs or that it makes everything blurry. I will eventually get a pair of prescription glasses but can see myself still using these as a spare or in addition to the prescription set I will get. This is about as truthful and descriptive as I can get about these but basically each individual will have to try them for themselves as all eyeballs are different! Hope this helps someone though. I love them and would recommend them if you want some glasses you can at least wear around the house and not feel you have to take them off all the time. 5For years I've wrestled with single focal and bi bi-focals and always hated them. I happened on these at a local ...This is exactly what I needed. For years I've wrestled with single focal and bi bi-focals and always hated them. I happened on these at a local supermarket and instantly liked them, except they didn't have my prescription. As soon as I got home I ordered these from Amazon and they are perfect. I took them to a local Lenscrafters store and they adjusted them for me, now they fit me perfectly. Now I just wear them at meetings and while I'm working at my computer without having to constantly put them on take them off. Why didn't someone think of this 10 years sooner? 5Poor quality framesThe lenses work well. I was hoping to get a good pair of graduated power lenses since I just paid $320 for a pair from my optometrist. The lenses function as I had hoped. The problem is with the frames. My favorite reading glasses BY FAR have been the Foster Grant aluminum series. Those frames are of very high quality and the lenses are good. I assumed these frames would be comparable. They are not even close.Costing almost twice as much as the regular aluminum frames, I figured it was the same glasses with graduated lenses. Not so. These frames look and feel cheap. The hinges are flimsy and loose fitting and the frame itself isn't straight. They feel like they could snap any second. I use them sparingly for fear they will break any moment. After two weeks use (of very limited use) one hinge is now much looser and threatening to break altogether.I have come to expect more from Foster Grant and will not be replacing this style of glasses with another pair. 3Love/Hate these - the taller lenses are betterIt's great Foster Grant provides multi-focus glasses at a reasonable price. I bought both the Wes and the Sawyer styles (both 1.75x) -- in the attached comparison photo, the Wes is on top, Sawyer on bottom.I have a square jaw and a wide square face, so wide rectangular glasses like the Sawyer look best on me. However there are a few problems with these glasses, and it's particularly bad on the Sawyer. I don't like the Wes style much because it doesn't match my face as well, but in usage it works better, for reasons described below.1) The bottom band of magnification is very narrow, it's maybe 1/6 the height of the lens. Since the Sawyer lenses are narrow to start with, the full-strength magnification is in a tiny sliver at the bottom of the frame. I have to push the glasses high on my nose and tilt my head back to read anything in that band. The Wes is a lot better, because the taller lens has a taller band at the bottom, and the frame also has additional curvature at the bottom so it's easier to read through that area.2) Something seems to be wrong with the lens coating on the Sawyer, so no matter how I try to wipe or clean the lenses I can't get them fully clean. Someone in another review mentioned that the ones at Walgreens are higher quality. Normally I would doubt that's true, but it would explain the difference between my glasses (I bought the Sawyer on Amazon, and the Wes at Walgreens)... so, heh, if I buy more of these glasses, I might avoid Amazon next time.3) On both glasses, there's a circle with letters etched into both lenses. Looking at the glasses from the back, the left lens has the magnification value ("175" in my case), and the right lens has "FGX" which I assume stands for Foster Grant. On the Sawyer, this etching is very strong. It's probably not a problem for most people, but when I'm wearing them I actually see it -- it's a blurry spot on the side of my vision, and I keep thinking I needed to wipe a smudge off the lens. When I first got the glasses I didn't notice the etchings, I just thought it was a smudge, and it took a while to realize that Foster Grant ACTUALLY ETCHED SYMBOLS ON THE LENS YOU LOOK THROUGH. See the attached pics for detail.Overall I appreciate multi-focus glasses at a reasonable price but these frustrate me. 3Servicable if not quite perfect.Almost perfect. I have increasing difficulty reading anything, and just recently began having difficulty seeing print on a computer screen. Since I just returned to the workplace after a few years of retirement, I find it difficult to do computer work with my prescription bifocals. My distance vision has been improving and is nearly perfect, so that I no longer need glasses to drive. For close work, I am blind as a bat. Presbyopia--or literally translated, old eyes. These glasses are a big help. I did not know which strength to order, so I picked the middle one at 1.75 with the hope that the top third of the lens would be close to zero magnification. With 1.75 magnification, I can read very small type on a printed page at 16 to 20 inches, and very small fonts on a computer screen comfortably at 18 to 28 inches. The combination is perfect for entering data from a printed page onto a computer spread sheet which had been a major problem. The top third of the lens is OK for looking at a person seated across from me at my desk, although I don't need glasses for that. Unfortunately, the rest of the office is a blur. I can look over the glasses, but feel I shouldn't have to. I cannot use them for driving or distance vision of any kind.I would have preferred that the top third be zero magnification--window glass, but this type of eye ware seems to be unavailable with that option. These are not the most comfortable frames ever--on me they are a little tight, and the style is only OK on my face. It would be really difficult to select perfectly fitting and optimally flattering glasses when purchasing on line. Nevertheless, I am not unhappy. The quality of the frames suggests that they will be durable.Found a solution for the uncomfortable nose pieces on Amazon. These silicone covers solve the problem at low cost: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014CAUYZY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 4Didn't fit comfortablyFirst off - my review rating of three-stars (OK) is based more on my personal experience than the quality of the glasses. For the most part the glasses are well made. The issues I have with them are more the size and that they gave me a really bad headache. These glasses are a bit smaller than any of the other reader's I have - most of the reading glasses I've previously purchased have a frame width of 5-1/2" (measurement across the front of the glasses from leg to leg), these Foster Grant Sawyer men's multi-focus glasses have a width of 5-1/4". Which makes them slightly tight against my head and uncomfortable for me to wear.I'm going to keep the glasses, but not wear them as my main pair. The glasses themselves are clear and I can see well out of the different levels of magnifications, but the variations of magnification apparently gives me a headache (a different strength than 1.5x might work better for me). I doubt I'll be buying another pair of these, not unless I can find them in a store locally and try them on first.ETA (7-7-2017)Haven't used these glasses much since buying them, so I thought I'd give them another go this past week. After a few days the glasses literally fell apart. One leg came off when the screw fell out. Found the screw and put the leg back on, but the screw is still loose and I imagine it will fall out again. Also one of the nose pads came off, haven't found it nor the screw that holds it on. For what I paid for these Foster Grant glasses I am seriously disappointed it the quality of the product. 2
