Great Vinegar Alternative For Low Acid DietThank goodness I could find Savory online because only one store anywhere near me has it, yet I rarely go there. I'm trying to lower to acid in my diet to take care of several health issues and read savory could be used to replace the taste of vinegar in recipes. I had never used it until I made potato logs. Cut the potato in half lengthwise, cut each half again, then cute each large wedge in half. Put the wedges in a pan of hot (not boiling) water and let set for 10 minutes. Drain and pat dry. Preheat your oven to 375. Put potato logs on a baking pan, sprinkle with salt, pepper, and a dash of savory. A little savory goes a long way here. Add a little olive oil, just enough to get the potatoes covered. Mix the potatoes with your hands until they all have some seasoning. Leave a little room between each potato log on the pan and cook for about 20 minutes. Flip each potato wedge over and cook for another 10 minutes or so or until the potatoes are cooked well. I was surprised this made them taste like the fries with vinegar some fish places have.I'm looking forward to experimenting with the savory to make some low acid salad dressing next!5Here it is!!! The recently lost spice that is missing from most folks cupboards!!!Glad to find this very important spice finally!I ve looked in every supermarket and it has suddenly become impossible to find... Until I tried Amazon... It s a bit pricier here, but you can t put a price on having this lost but still necessary flavor profile. It s similar to thyme, but a bit more peppery bite and an unmistakable flavor profile. It s the most abundant ingredient in Herbs de Provence Along with lavender, rosemary, fennel, & thyme, this popular blend is used in many types of French, and continental cooking...But Savory is distinctive enough to be the herb with the greatest, Umame element in recipes!!! Try it copiously in a rice pilaf with a little bit of pepper, ground oregano, and Bay leaves!!! Don t forget to saut your rice in butter or oil till it lightly toasts, and use seasoned chicken stock or bullion instead of salt... That s what makes it a great rice Pilaf!!!5Fabulous flavorGood quality. Unless I grew savory I had to give up cooking with this fabulous herb. The first time I had this was on a vacation in Nova Scotia, fell on love with it and was so sad to discover it's not very easy to find in the US. For years I grew both winter and summer savory but with the drought have stopped growing water thirsty plants. I'm so glad that Amazon has this at a good price - plus it's so easy to order it. Gotta love Amazon Prime bringing the world to my door.5This is by far my favorite all around herbThis is by far my favorite all around herb. My grandfather used it for stakes, chicken, pork and even eggs. Doesn t go well with seafood. The taste is like Italian oregano but not as sweet with a bit spicy tones (not hot at all). It enhances BBQ and pizza. Will buy again.5Potent desirable flavorI am amazed at how potent this spice is and how desirable the flavor in the soup I make with it. BUT why is it so hard to find in stores?5Good to have in pantryI didn t know what a savory is. Apparently, there s a winter savory and a summer savory. Savory is consisting of parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme or marjoram. I bought this and used it before I even know what s in it lol but it made my life easier. I had to brine it and the recipe calls for this. First time I m using that brining recipe and it turned out great! Love the smell-very much like fall!5Can't find this in any supermarket!I use savory only for my famous pasta sauce, but have been unable to find it locally. Of course, you can find anything you need on Amazon, so I took a look. It's McCormick, so I know it's good quality - what else can I say? It was a bit pricey, but keeping it in the freezer this little bottle will last me a few years.5Very handy herbI find myself grabbing for this little herb the more I have it. Was a pleasure to find since I don t see it in the local grocery. Delighted to find it here. I make a lot of soups and find this is added to almost all of them...not bad on scrambled eggs either5This spice should be available in more grocery stores! This spice smells amazing and is great on vegetables. My friend said it absolutely makes her turkey awesome!5Definitely Savory!Meets my expectations. It does smell and taste slightly like thyme, so it can serve as a replacement, kind of like how marjoram and oregano can sometimes be interchangeable. Savory is it own unique flavor and I've been using it for my Italian inspirations mostly.4
