Just what I was looking for!This is exactly what I was looking for. I bought two of these for each calf. I needed something to help me avoid cramps and lactic buildup in my calves when I run long distances. I bought these just in time for a half marathon. Previously, I bought calf compressions for the same reason why I bought these, so I knew that these calf sleeves or calf compressions in general would suffice for my purpose. The reason why I bought these is because I felt my other ones that were made of the same material as typical compression shirts could work even better if they were more snugged or compressed. These are made of neoprene, which I was apprehensive about because I didn't want them to be too thick and intrusive and also too warm for comfort. However, after doing much research, I decided to give them a shot, and I'm glad I did. The compression is certainly tighter because it's made of neoprene rubber, which I welcome. It's not very thick and intrusive at all; it has a discreet profile much like any calf sleeve. It does get warmer than other typical calf sleeves that aren't made of neoprene rubber. However, it's warmth keeps my calf muscles from cooling down, which aids in blood flow and recovery. They are also not as long as typical calf compressions. This is a bonus plus for me because I'm on the shorter side and regular calf compressions are made long which means they extend from my heal and all the way up to my knee, which I don't want so I have to fold them in, usually from the bottom. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase. 5Shin Saver for DeadliftsWhen I deadlift, I use as much leverage as possible to get the weight up. With that in mind, there is usually contact between the bar and my shin causing the dreaded shin rake. I bought these calf sleeves to mitigate the shin rake and boy do they work PERFECTLY! Since I have been using these, I have not suffered an abrasion once!The only thing one may consider a downside is that you sweat as if though your calfs alone are in a sauna! I tend to leave the gym with my socks and Chuck Taylor's soaked in sweat. However, the sweat only goes to the ankle and I do not feel this "downside" warrants taking away any stars.This product is great and I recommend it to anybody that brings the bar close to their shins. 5Great for DeadliftsI use these for deadlifts at the gym. Noticed that no matter how good my form is and how much control I have over the bar, I pretty much ended every deadlift workout with skinned shins. Bought these and haven't had a problem since.The only issues are as follows:They will be soaked with sweat after a good workout. I always dry them inside out - I wouldn't recommend just sticking them in your gym bag following a workout, as they will probably get funky.Tough to take off. If you size correctly, getting them on will be a cinch but you'll have to develop a method for getting them off efficiently. It's not a big deal, but wrestling with with them after a tough workout is the last thing most people want to do. 4I regret now knowing about these sooner.I was a bit skeptical about other 5 Star reviews saying the Calf Sleeves worked wonders or magic for their current circumstance(s), but after having tried them, I have to admit they are everything those reviewers claimed them to be.There are an overwhelming number of people also saying they were too tight. Outside of measuring their calves wrong or receiving the wrong size, they are supposed to be tight. Calves are an extremely strong muscle in the leg (your mileage may vary) and to treat or prevent an injury by way of support, a tight/snug fit is necessary. For those not sure which sizes to get, the rule of thumb I used was if your size is the low-end to somewhere in the middle (i.e. 15 or 16) and the size (for the sleeve) reads (15-17) get that size. However if your size is on the high end, consider going up a size unless you aim for ultra-snug (which may be perfect for you).I ruptured an Achilles tendon a number of years ago and although I am not a doctor, I believe wearing these may have helped prevent that from happening. The compression and heat these generate/retain are a good combination that keep my calves from tightening up. I truly regret not knowing about these sooner.Finally, for those reviewers giving less stars because of a mistake YOU made (you KNOW who you are), come on now! You shouldn't post that the product works as advertised yet ding it because you didn't follow the CLEAR directions provided. I read reviews... A lot of people however, look only at stars... Your unfair deduction(s) can have a negative impact/influence on potential buyers as well as an undeserved barrier for the seller. 5I measured my calf at the largest point and ordered based on the chart and they fit like a gloveI got these specifically for protecting my shins while doing deadlifts. They were not too expensive so I felt it was worth the risk even though I had a few concerns. Here is what they were and what I found out since using them:1. They would not fit correctly. Several people said they were way too small or way too big. I don't know what caused their issues--inconsistent quality control, error in ordering or other, but mine fit perfectly. I measured my calf at the largest point and ordered based on the chart and they fit like a glove.2. They would not be comfortable. They feel great. I like the compression and although they do get sweaty when working out, they don't feel too hot somehow.3. They would not be good for deadlifting as that is not their intended purpose. They are perfect. They protect my shins very well (and they were pretty torn up from previous lifts) and the bar drags smoothly on them.If you are considering these for deadlifting, I recommend getting them. I have never used any other product so I have nothing to compare them to, but I am pretty pleased with them across the board. 5Essential for Calf Strain PainI blow my calf out about every 1.5 years... usually associated with switching shoes... starting to learn that a lower heal to toe drop is necessary for me. Anyway, when the calf goes, I can hardly walk. Pain is only present when weight is placed on ball of foot... I can stand on my heal all day with no pain... but engaging the calf muscle on the ball of the foot is excruciating. These neoprene calf sleeves are awesome. note... you need the neoprene, not the cloth compression sleeves.. cloth is not firm enough. The tight neoprene sleeve provides both support and natural heat reflected back into the muscle... both of which should promote healing (but I'm no doctor). I can tell you that while recovering from a calf injury, this sleeve makes it bearable to walk... without, its very painful. Don't be surprised when your leg sweats under the sleeve... that his the natural reaction to the heat these help generate. May want to buy a few, so you can wash them regularly and still be wearing one at all times. 5After a few workouts of pulling both sumo and conventional I can say that these calf sleeves are great for protecting your legsI bought these calf sleeves specifically for deadlifting in order to protect my shin from cuts and bruises. After several months of pulling both sumo and conventional I can say that these calf sleeves are great for protecting your legs and are resilient enough to last for a long time.My only complaint is that I really wish that the logo wasn't dead center at the top of the sleeve. The bar occasionally catches on this logo and makes the lift awkward. 4Great for deadliftingI wanted to make this a specific post for deadlifting because most of the reviews are for runners. I found that these are great for deadlifters looking to protect their shins. I tried different kinds of socks without success until I discovered these. They provide a nice amount of padding while at the same time, the smooth part of the bar slides easily across the neoprene. It does leave your lower leg a bit sweaty but it's worth it to not have the bleeding and bruising, unless you like that sort of thing. Highly recommend. 5Great for under soccer shin guardsI use these sleeves for under my shin guards playing soccer. I use them especially at night to prevent cramps in my calves when it is chilly, and I am rolling in hot to play with no time to warm up. I also found out that they protect me from bruising when people miss my shin guard. They are just neoprene, but I didn't wear them one hot Saturday afternoon game and someone kicked me and left a huge bruise. In the leagues I play in, sometimes you get people who are a little less coordinated or out of control and they kick you accidentally. I now wear these no matter the weather and my legs don't look like I have been assaulted even though I play as much as 4-5 times a week. I have 2 pairs now. I just rinse them out and stand them up to keep them fresh. My shin guards don't get as nasty either because the sleeves absorb the sweat. 5441, but not as picturedI have the multi-panel model 441, previously purchased at Big 5, and ordered two more here. I received a variation of the 441 which do NOT have the multiple panels and aren't quite as contoured or comfortable as the multi-panel model. Most of the pictures here show the model I did not get; one shows the plain back single panel that I did receive. They are model 441, and the part number printed inside is the same on these and the multi-panel version, so I don't know how it's possible to know what you're getting without seeing it in person first.That said, I've used this style before without any problems, so these will work fine, but the pics are somewhat misleading. 3
