So, so disappointed, they use PPO to pasteurizeSo so disappointed, they use ppo to pasteurize these almonds. Please do NOT buys these, PPO is a jet fuel additive that has been banned from racing because it is so hazardous to your health. Somehow it's legal to spray on food and then feed it to children. My daughter gets rashes whenever she eats almonds that have ppo on them. I thought these would be ok, but she got the rash and I emailed them to ask, they responded and told me that they do in fact use PPO pasteurization, so sad. Food to live has organic almonds that are fine, but stay away from these.1Poor Quality Control Of This BatchI wrote a previous review on this product, and I was pretty well satisfied with these almonds and the supplier. However, this particular batch was awful. In fact it was so bad, it was the exact opposite of my previous review in which the almonds from this supplier were fresh and tasty. So I re-ordered from the same supplier. This batch of almonds were old with little or no taste. Some were so old, they looked like they had decayed and had a bad taste. I am no almond expert, but I do know if the product tastes fresh or not, and this particular batch was anything but fresh. It was like these almonds had been sitting around for years before being shipped, so I won't be ordering from this supplier any time soon. The quality control is lacking. In fairness, every once in a while, I would luck out and find a single and somewhat acceptable almond, but then the rest of the handful would turn on me!! I wish the supplier would have more quality control.2Old and rottenI purchased a 10lb bag, seemed cheap and says organic. The almonds are from Spain and not the almonds I am use to. They taste really good though except for an occasional rancid almond. I am use to getting the rancid almonds when I buy by the bulk, but there is at least one or two rancid almonds per bowl. That is why I take one star off.Update: Aug 26, 2016After eating my way into the 10lb bag I am getting one rotten nut after another. I tried to like these but they make me want to puke. I won't be buying these again. I love the pumpkin kernels but these almonds are old and rotten. It says they would be good until 2017 but they are already rancid!1RancidI've ordered these almonds three times now. The first time I had no problem. I would have given them 5 stars. But the second time they arrived rancid. I thought maybe it was a fluke, so I tried again. Rancid again! And the suspicious thing is that with my rancid packages, there was a large sticker over the nutritional information area. (See picture.) It has nutritional info and an expiration date. Now I'm wondering what is underneath. Unfortunately, these are not eligible to return so I wasted my money on an inedible snack.1unadulterated, High quality RAW almonds right here!I had recently just learned that almonds grown in the United States are not actually raw. In fact there is no regulations protecting the labeling of raw...ridiculous, I know! As of a few years ago, farmers who grow almonds are required by law to treat almond with either steam, irradiation or chemically pasteurization. This applies to Organically grown almonds as well. I don't know about you, but if I am going to spend this kind of money on nuts, they sure as heck better not be covered in propylene oxide!I'm glad to have found these almonds here on Amazon for the same price per pound I was paying at Whole Foods when I buy 4lbs at a time. However, it's really unfortunate that we must resort to buying these from overseas. Luckily these almonds are by far the best almonds I have ever had. They are much larger, a bit softer and mellower taste than what I was buying before. I know I truly have never had a raw almond until now!5Uses for almondsWe made a lot of delicious almond milk with these and kept some in the fridge for snacking. We soaked them for 12 hours before using them for the milk and snacking and that made them softer and released the phytic acid which made them easier to digest and you could see it in the water that we covered them with because it turned brown and then we rinsed them off after soaking them. Almond milk was easy to make. We just put them in the Nutribullet or you could use a blender and add 4 times as much water and blend then use a nut milk bag or cheese cloth to strain the almond milk out and then you can drink the milk and use the almond meal for flour if you put it in the oven on a baking sheet at a lower temperature.5Organic and Truly Raw!These almonds taste fantastic and not only are they organic, they are truly "raw," meaning they have not been pasteurized. These almonds originate from Spain, so unlike almonds produced within the U.S. that are required by the USDA to be "sterilized" by either chemical or heating methods, these almonds have not undergone any processes that alter their nature. On a side note, even though the USDA passed into law that all almonds produced in the U.S. must go through a pasteurization process, they are still allowed to label their almonds as "raw," and there are no requirements that they must disclose the method they chose to use to "sterilize" their almonds on product labels. So, unfortunately, if you are eating almonds produced in the U.S., and they are not organic, and you are buying them at a store, you just might be eating propylene oxide (PPO) laced almonds and not know it. Best to get your almonds directly from the farmers or from sources that produce almonds outside of our country, but are available online!!! Thank goodness for amazon!!!5Fresh, great tasting and soak/sprout very well, perfect for almond milk and snacking etc.We purchased a large bag of these mainly to make almond milk for smoothies and to replace regular lactose milk types, so far they have been working out well! We always soak and sprout them, but they do taste pretty good and smooth with a nice flavor just regular as a snack too. I read all of the info and reviews about raw/sprouting etc and it seems these are popular and legit as far as all that goes, though we are beginners to this area FTL seems to be reputable and well recommended. There were a decent amount of broken/cracked almonds, I suppose this can't be avoided but it did seem a little more than expected - I'd say maybe 15-20% overall. Again totally ok to snack on and taste yummy even without soaking so we just eat the cracked and broken ones this way, but it was a little disappointing - could be how these large bags all come though regardless of brandPrice is definitely not cheap but compared to other raw bags of this size it was a on the lower side, and if you are in the market for these you know you know they just cost more. Worth it though for us at least to have lactose free, healthy fresh almond milk :)Will definitely buy these again!4Taste is poorI purchase almonds and cashews from this seller frequently in 8 and 10 pound bags. I have not had any problem with quality of taste in the past .This purchase was something I did not expect. I made almond butter with them, the taste was as if they are going bad so I threw it all out. I got up the next morning and took one almond out of the bag, it felt like there was dirt still on it and the color of the skin was darker than usual. I held it under water and rubbed it until the grit rinsed off. It still tasted as if it were going bad. I read the label and this bag was labeled as " Italian organic almonds" The picture of the back of the 8 pound bag that is shown at the top of this page simply states "Raw unpasteurized organic almonds " It is unfortunate I have received "Italian organic almonds" that I now need to throw out. I shall ask the seller for replacement keeping in mind that these are not returnable it appears that $86.50 will be flushed down the drain. Be aware . UPDATE 11/10/2019 Contacted seller to explain problem , they have issued a return label ( prepaid) . They will take the bag bag back even though it is open and will issue a full refund. I need to rate this company as a 5 star just for this !! The nuts are not as lucky .3Maybe because it is from Italy? Or maybe because it is bulk?I regularly order these almonds over the years to make almond milk and almond butter. I sprout (soak) them and then make whatever I need to. Basic reason I buy these is because they are not sourced from the United States (which requires processing of all almonds). In the past, these almonds were from Spain and I had no issue with the taste. This time they came from Italy and there were more nuts with a bad taste. Given the amount I purchased (to get the discount), I did not ask for a return. They might have gladly done so, but I did not give the seller the opportunity. I can't see where to give them this feedback not in public via Amazon, so I am doing it here. Beware of buying too many nuts in case the batch is not so great. I would recommend these normally.3
