Attention IBS sufferersI am writing this in hopes that I can help others that might suffer from rampant diarrhea! I suffered for several years and it was getting worse. I had tried everything (Ibguard, peppermint oil capsules, ). I knew I had a problem digesting fat. I tried lipase and I also tried ox bile. I still had uncontrollable diarrhea that I couldn t relate to anything I ate. It was driving me crazy! Finally one day I came across Habba Syndrome. Although it is described as a malfunctioning gallbladder, you can also have it if you don t have a gallbladder. It s basically the release of bile at the wrong time. The symptoms sounded very close to mine and explained why I would have diarrhea no matter what I ate. So I asked my GP to give me a prescription for [either Welchol or Colestipol] and he was willing to do so. It worked great! It stopped the random unexplained diarrhea I had experienced. But I still suffered with diarrhea whenever I ate fat. So, in one sense I had this extra bile and yet wasn t digesting fat. I then decided to try the ox bile again, fearful that it would just add more bile into the mix, but being a powder, perhaps it would work.Bottom line is - it was miraculous!! By taking Colestipol every day and taking ox bile when eating fatty foods I have achieved perfect bowel movements. I take up to 4 capsules of ox bile depending on how much fat I m consuming. I take 2 Colestipol pills twice a day, which is the standard dose. I am a new person with no worries about what I eat or if I can leave the house. The Colestipol (or Welchol) is pricey, but should be manageable with insurance or an online coupon. If you still can t afford it, you can try Cholestyramine, which functions the same but is a powder you mix with water - kind of yucky, but not as yucky as diarrhea. These are merely bile binding drugs for treating high cholesterol, so they are not chemicals that will mess with your body.I ve tried to be brief and still give all the information someone might need to investigate this treatment if they are facing this problem. There can be different reasons for IBS and, of course, this won t be the answer for everyone, but if it helps one person to get their life back I will be thrilled. And by the way, I do give this product 5 stars as it is working wonderfully for me. 5Great for LCHF dietersI've tried lots of digestive enzymes in the past 30 years, but they always gave me a terrible tummy ache. I recently started a LCHF diet, and was having trouble digesting fat, so I tried these and they work great! No tummy issues and they resolved the issues immediately with the first pill. 5My Personal Experience and Advice for Using Ox BileI am sure there will be others, like me, who are desperate for relief from symptoms of gallbladder removal. So I will share my experience and hopefully pass along the help these pills have given me. After having my gallbladder removed, I experienced horrible pain and pressure from just about everything I ate. I restricted myself to a bland diet that consisted mostly of crackers, toast and soup. I dropped weight at an alarming rate. So I stumbled onto these pills and figured it was worth a try. My first attempt failed because I didn't take enough pills to balance what I ate. I gave it another try, and since then it has been trial and error. I assume it is different for everyone regarding the necessary dosage to compensate what is eaten. If I take too many, I get dumping/diarrhea symptoms. If I don't take enough, I get the old pain and pressure. You have to take it slowly and experiment with what works. I have read reviews on the 500 mg. dosage and saw that some people take as much as 1500 mg. for fatty/greasy meals. However, 500 mg might work just as well for others. I'm not at the point yet where I'm brave enough to try anything fatty/greasy, so I can't say what will work for me. I can say that, while I have setbacks as I experiment, these pills WORK. I am eating more food and larger portions with little to no pain most of the time. As I learn more about how much bile my body needs, it should continue to get better. 5Nothing Short of An Instant Miracle !I have suffered for two years since having my gall bladder removed . My life has been put on hold and I have felt isolated because I felt so lousy all of the time. I had a strange menagerie of symptoms associated with digestion that would come and go . I also had severe bloating and always felt my food was stagnating in my stomach and not moving along properly ( gastroparesis . ) Recently I have been diagnosed with SOD, a bile disorder that happens to MANY ( hint : almost everyone ) after GB surgery . Out of desperation I timidly ordered these and took my first with a meal . Within an hour I headed to the bathroom with completely NORMAL stool ( not yellow or pale . ) I have used these at meals for a three days and I am no longer bloated! REad that again! My food is not stagnating in my gut , making me sick . Thank God for Amazon and for supplements . The most important thing I have learned is never to blindly trust any expert, especially if he is a gastro doc making loads of money doing expensive tests like an assembly line and has little time to actually TALK to the patient . My surgeon told me I would always be able to eat anything after GB surgery . That is a lie. I started having vomiting episodes in the middle of the night shortly after surgery . I had a sour stomach and terrible fatigue and constipation for two years . The problem was a shortage of bile . At the ER a week ago, ( finally ) a doctor who was not a gastro guy mentioned bile salts . I ordered these and can t believe the difference. I was becoming fearful of not only fat , but every form of food I consumed.I think it is best to take these after a few bites of a meal rather than before the meal when the gut is empty. I have had no side effects at all .I often wonder if a lot of gastro docs really want to solve problems as much as they want to administer Te$TS and pass out the latest Big Pharma over hyped synthetic medicine . I am glad there are more critical thinkers who do not take every professional s word at face value. If you have terrible problems with indigestion ( esp after gall bladder surgery ) read about sphincter of Oddi dysfunction , which is very common with middle aged women after GB surgery . I believe this bile can probably solve more than half of digestive problems that exist , but don t count on your gastro doc to tell you about it . 5Urban moonshine digestive bitters (I used to take and love my mom's old standby Swedish Bitters but you can't ...Some pros:I have gallbladder issues...stones or sludge I am not sure... but I am so not into surgery which apparently is the "big answer" by western doctors, so I looked into God's pharmacy instead.I want to tell others what is working well for me. I take these at mealtimes: Ox Bile capsules, Urban moonshine digestive bitters (I used to take and love my mom's old standby Swedish Bitters but you can't take them long-term, so I went with Urban Moonshine instead) . I also take a glass of apple cider vingegar infused water first thing in the morning, and a good probioltic before I go to bed. Those are my "get through this day" suppliments. For the long term effects of gallbladder/liver issues, I also take 2 Milk Thistle cap,1 Taurine cap, 1-3 Stonebreaker drops DAILY. I also eat beets more and take Choline occasionally. These all together are working good-to-great for me. It's a LOT to remember but surgery is not an option for me and I'd rather do all this. Oh, and also, I am eating low/lower bad fats and I am enjoying my weight loss! :)Overall, I thank God for the wake up call, as I needed to change my diet anyway! And I thank HIM for natural products, like this one, that give us an option without the devastating side effects of most western symptom-blockers (not cures.) Thank you, Lord! 5Missing a gall bladder?? Consider supplementing.I could not believe the difference ox bile made for the pain I've endured for years following my gall bladder removal. This review is a glowing recommendation to people who believe they suffer the same way that I have.Initially I thought my entire problem was that I was gluten sensitive, but not always, and not always immediately, which made it difficult to believe that I should cut it out altogether. When I was eating gluten free my pain certainly was less frequent. I briefly thought that maybe everything hurting me has MSG. Then it occured to me that I may have two problem areas, one in my small & one in my large intestine, causing irritation at different times, possibly from different sources. Then: meat might be a culprit? Pain continued with a randomness that could try a saint, especially when life made gluten-free a herculean feat. All the while I would find myself crying on the toilet at least twice monthly.Cut to more recent times. In desperation I laid out my problems in a group online. I had a lot of stock answers from people who think they know anything & then one self-proclaimed nutritionist saying essentially "if you had your gall bladder out then you should definitely be supplementing with ox bile, did no one tell you?" ... and I didn't believe her, but weeks later in an especially painful moment decided to blow some money on an experiment. It worked.I take one with the first bite of a moderately fatty meal or two at the beginning of a very fatty meal (which I try to have only occasionally, as a rule). If I take my dose after a fatty meal, I may or may not save myself from pain. Doing things this way I seem to be less gluten sensitive overall, even when enjoying a lower fat meal & therefore foregoing an ox bile. It makes me think that the sensitive areas in my gut are healing. No pain for months now. I don't understand, only report.Reordering. 5Easier to Fine-Tune DosingGallbladder was removed about 15 years ago. Over 10 years time after I slowly declined in health. Didn't know why. Had trouble with indigestion after eating, burping up food hours after meals. I started taking generic digestion pills (that had pancreatin, HCl, enzymes) and they helped. But, I had to take a lot of them. I got on an HCl kick for a while, but nearly ended up with a stomach ulcer. Then one day it dawned on me that bile was the key ingredient. Thing is, it's near impossible to find bile supplements alone in stores (bile is usually combined with other digestives). I tried various bile supplements, and Nutricology's Ox bile seems to work best for me. However, different folks need different amounts of bile supplementation. I tried their 500mg pills, but they were too much bile in one dose for me. I could either take 1 pill a day, and have some meals still cause indigestion (not enough bile), or I could take 2 pills spaced out in the day but end up with the scoots the next day (too much bile). I looked for a lower dose, and thankfully they make these 125mg pills. This lets the end-user custom-dose (1 for 125mg, 2 for 250mg, 3 for 375mg, 4 for 500mg, etc). You have to experiment yourself to find which brand works best for you. Some folks may do ok with a bile stimulating thing like Cholachol (didn't work for me). Others need straight-up bile supplement, but, for me anyways, there seems to be a difference between procine (pig) and ox bile. Ox bile just seems to work best for me. I try to take 2 x 125mg pills per meal if I remember to take it every meal or 3 x 125mg if I just remember to take it morning and night. The key to bile supplementation is to also take fat soluble vitamins at the same time, especially vitamin D. Most folks get enough vit A & E, and the body tends to make vit K if gut flora is in balance (which bile supplementation can help balance if you have sluggish bile production). But, since many of us spend lives working office jobs and not getting much sun, we can get really low in Vit D. Vit D seems to process better with bile supplementation. When I started mixing in an extra dose of Vit D with my multi vitamin at night and taking it all with bile supplement, it was like night and day. I had more energy, felt better, slept better. So, my night time routine is to take a multi-vite with extra vit D and bile to help digest the fat soluble vitamins (A,D,E,K). It's worked pretty well. I just wish doctors would have told me about this when I had my gallbladder taken out years ago. I saw doctor after doctor due to deteriorating health, but since blood work showed "everything was fine", they dismissed my mentions of weight-gain, fatigue, etc to just "you need to eat healthier and get more exercise". I'm able to function like a normal person now that I'm actually digesting food normally and absorbing the fat soluble vitamins. Medical folks are dropping the ball by not letting gallbladder removal patients know about this after procedures. 5Why don't doctors recommend thisI had my gallbladder removed in 1999 and problems with severe bloating ever since. I could tell a difference in one day after taking this stuff. Omg why doesn't doctors tell you to supplement this with your meals because it has changed my life!!! 5I can eat again!I had to have my gall bladder removed 2+ years ago and eating has been a real downer ever since. Not just high-fat items, but all sorts of random things made me sick. I tried digestive enzymes with a little success, but then the company stopped making them. My partner did a lot of research and read that Ox bile could help. I was leery of trying it, to be honest (OX BILE...hello. Gross), but the promise of being able to eat like a human being again eventually made me try them. Wow! While not a complete cure-all (I'm not back to eating just anything I want like I did before the surgery,) I can definitely eat pretty regularly. I take one capsule before every meal and I only occasionally get sick if it's a high-fat meal (fried food, for example). I bet if I planned ahead and took two capsules ahead of a fried food meal, I would probably be ok. Be aware that once you start taking these, you shouldn't stop. I've been told that my body will get used to having the bile available for digestion via the capsule and if it's not there, I will get very sick again. So, I have to take a capsule before every meal...even if it is low fat, because my body is used to having the bile available for digestion. Not the worst thing in the world, I guess, since I can eat regular food now, but I fear for the day they stop making these or for the day I run out before I get the next bottle. I would definitely recommend giving them a try if you have gall bladder issues or have had your gall bladder removed. 5No more leaky gutI had my gall bladder taken out in 2009 in emergent surgery. It was infected and had to go. I wish the doctor had educated me more on the side effects and why they were occurring. I had leaky gut for ages, and it just became a part of life. I found out about ox bile because I wanted to do the keto diet, but was worried about the high fat part of it. I invested in these and take them in the morning before my bulletproof coffee and not had an issue since day 1. The first few days I took 2 pills, thinking I would really need the extra help since I had leaky gut even before drinking butter in my coffee. I think 2 was too much bc then I got stopped up a bit. Now I take 1 pill in the morning, and if I plan on having an extra greasy meal (rib eye as opposed to avocado or other healthy fat), then I will take another before that meal. Works for me! 5
