Customer Reviews

Just OK, smaller than expectedThese are OK, they are not even close to be 1" thick however, maybe 1/3 of an inch thick. But, they dowork. I would say these are the size more for a lunch bag, if you have a small insulated bag to carry. I usethem in a 12" x 12" x 10" styrofoam cooler in my bedroom, so I don't have to go downstairs in the middle of a hot summernite to get cold water from the fridge. They work for something like that. Two in this case are best. Depends onthe temp in the place you are using them. If you have a large cooler, then I might suggest using half a dozen.Nice thing due to their smaller size is they don't take up a lot of room in the freezer. They are surprisingly heavy when they arrive in a box.3Cold for HOURSI needed ice-packs to keep breastmilk cold for 14 hours on a day trip. I also wanted wanted that were inexpensive so that if TSA made me throw them out, I wouldn't be throwing out ones that cost a lot of $. These worked great. They were just slightly too big for my Medela cooler, so I folded the edges under before freezing and they fit perfectly inside the cooler. I used 3, and even though I kept adding warm milk to the cooler during hot day, only the top ice pack melted, and it was even still cold. The middle one was slushy around the sides, and the bottom one was still frozen. These are great little ice-packs that didn't get wet with condensation as they warmed up. Bonus was the TSA didn't bother me about them at all, even when they were starting to soften.5Great for nursing moms!!!Used this along with the polar tech 227c thermo chill cooler to transport 200 ounces of breast milk from Australia to Boston. The milk was not frozen but very cold. I put a layer of ice on bottom of the cooler then a layer of the refrigerants and then my milk in freezer bags and then zip lock bags, followed by another layer of the refrigerants. I checked this at the airport and over 24 hours later I arrived home and everything was still cold (ice was still frozen!) HIGhLY RECOMMEND5Still frozen after traveling 3 days to GeorgiaI purchased this product to ship 10# of cheese from northern New England to Southern Georgia. I put them in the refrigerator freezer over night and then into the deep freezer for 4 days. When I took them out to pack up the cheese for shipping, the temp of these gel packs was 0 degrees. I used these with the Polar Tech 227C Thermo Chill Insulated Carton with Foam Shipper (Medium, 12" Length x 10" Width x 7" Depth-Case of 2) and sent the package FedEx ground which took three days until delivery. I was pleased to learn that the 8 gel packs were STILL FROZEN AFTER 3 DAYS. The cheese was very cold but not frozen.I would highly recommend this product for shipping to the south or when ever you need to keep something cold for a long period of time.5Works great to keep my meals COLD at work, NOT frozenI travel for work. A lot. and typically when I travel, I go away for 3 days at a time and drive at least 2 hours to get to work. I then stay in a hotel for those days and then drive home afterwards. Because I stay in a hotel, I prep my 3 days worth of meals before I go in. I have a refrigerator in my hotel room, but need to keep my food cold for approx 16 hours. I was finding this to be very difficult. When I pack my dinners for the road, I use a 12 can cooler, which I find works quite well and holds a good portion of food. I was looking for a solution that would keep my food cold, as well as take up minimal space in my cooler, as I needed to fit three meals in there. I came across these and was skeptical. I was concerned that with the soft moisture-free coating, it wasn't going to maintain the level of coolness I desired. The fact that the case came with 12 in it was great. I've been able to use about 4-6 at a time and keep everything nice and chilled, as well as dry because there is no sweating of the ice packs. They're small enough to where I can fit a handful of them in my freezer at once and not worry about it taking up too much space.I do have a few gripes with these ice packs though. The first, they are difficult to clean. If anything leaks onto them, you actually have to hand wash them with soap and water, and then let dry. You can't just try it with a paper towel and expect it to be dry like a typical ice pack. Second, I dropped one or two on the floor when frozen (butter fingers), which if you drop it the right way, or wrong way I supposed, it can cause it to tear a little, which means that you have the gel inside leaking out. Not a huge deal if your ice packs are never really thawing completely, I suppose, but for me it created an issue. So I had to toss a few because I dropped them and they tore. For the price point and quantity included, this isn't a deal breaker. Because they are so cheap and you get a good bang for your buck, they are easily replaceable.Overall, this is a product I would recommend for people who are looking to keep food items cold, NOT frozen. And probably not for transporting something over and extended period that you are worried about spoiling, or thawing and then it being unsafe to refreeze.4Stays cold for a very long time. These freeze quite well, stay frozen long, and they don't attract condensate. I like this smaller size as I'd rather have more than one of these around the items I'm carrying than have one huge one. I'm not going to take a star off for this, but as an FYI they are quite hard and rigid when they are frozen. And they freeze in whatever shape you set them (so if it's not flat, it's fat on one side and non-uniform). I do like some of the gel ice packs that are more flexible, but I feel like this keeps things cold way better than those do. I also think for the price 12 of them were a pretty good deal. I use about 4 at a time and rotate through them.5Ice ice, baby!I must say, I wasn't expecting much for the price, but these things perform much better than the equivalent weight of ice. The covering seems durable, they're hard as a brick when frozen and stay cold a long time. I just did a trial in my new Polar Bear soft cooler on Memorial Day weekend in the Alabama and Georgia heat, and I am officially impressed. I initially used my sub-zero deep freezer, but overnight I used the freezer compartment in the hotel room mini-fridge and that worked well also. They keep your beer cans or bottles colder than ice, and they're cheap. If you have a small cooler, one pack will do. If you have a large cooler, use your imagination. Not much more to say.5great for my lunch boxI was looking for reasonably priced cold packs to use for my lunch. I've had these before and like them because they don't sweat. I've also never had a problem with one breaking open. Saw the 12 pack for a reasonable price so I bought them. Keep 4 in the freezer at all times and the rest are back ups.5Solid purchaseLove the fact that these have the soft coating over them. I can use them on my head during a migraine without having to root around for a hand towel to cover them. Wish they were more flexible but you can't have everything ha. They stay cold for quite a long time, yet also freeze solid very quickly. I'm glad I purchased them.5No condensationI use these in my insulated lunch bag. They can last until my lunch time and keep my food perfectly chilled until I am ready to eat. We have a refrigerator at work but also lunch thieves so I keep mine in the bag. The best thing is that the outside of the gel packs are not plastic, its a cloth like material so they do not collect condensation on the outside and get everything wet. When I spilled something on them I washed them by hand when they are fully thawed out using a little dish soap, dry them out on the dish rack and they are good as new.5
