Customer Reviews

The noodles themselves are excellent. Definitely some of the best I have found ...If I could give half stars I would rate this 3.5 stars instead of 3. As far as spicyness it is at the upper end of what I can eat pleasurably. When they say spicy they mean it. Unfortunately the spice overpowers any chicken flavor that exists for me. Maybe a small dose of bullion would help it, I dunno. The noodles themselves are excellent. Definitely some of the best I have found in ramen packs, thick and chewy. The biggest downside, for me, is the noticeable sweetness that exists in the sauce. Overall, glad I tried it. Won't have any issues eating the 10 packs. Probably won't buy again.3Worth the Youtube NoveltyIt's worth it in the sense that its a "try it once the quell the curiosity". So if you have been curious by seeing all the YouTube challenges, just buy it and sate the sensation.Onto taste, I was honestly expecting it to be like Top Ramen. If you do not like eastern foods, then you will not like this. It's not like Top Ramen, it has a pronounced eastern flavor profile which is honestly pretty complex but off-putting to me personally (I don't like that style of food). I was hoping for more Americanized noodles (I know, feel free to roast me). The seaweed and some herbal-spiced oil gets to me.Onto the heat, you'll feel it. I order the spiciest stuff at restaurants for the novelty. If you are actually chewing and enjoying the meal, it's spicy but not overwhelmingly so. You will feel the burn, but you can still enjoy the meal if you have a decent tolerance. It's comparable to Bdubs Wild sauce or Wingstop Cajun.I just don't like the taste personally. It's fun for the challenge aspect though. You'll catch people without a tolerance off-guard pretty quickly.3Add a can of chicken breast.Delicious! I had the 2 spicy before I tried these, the 2 spicy noodles were good but the heat was almost too much, took two beers and a glass of milk to finish one bowl. And I cook with ghost peppers at least once a week. These are perfect, good flavor with an enjoyable level of heat. When I make this I like to add a can of chicken to make it more filling. When I clean the pan my wife and kids have to leave the kitchen, the steam has a tear gas effect on them. Their eyes burn and they start hacking if they get close to the sink. I am the only person in my house that enjoys hot spicy foods, that said, be considerate of those around you if you choose to go down this road.5Great taste, but price is too high.Once you get the hang of cooking them these are FANTASTIC, but alas they are also WAY overpriced. Go to your local Asian market first, make sure they aren't there because at the shops they are WAY cheaper than on here. Either way, they're delicious, perfect size for a decent meal and they'll make you hate the idea of going to the toilet for at least a day!5Forget YouTube. Try it spice lovers!Well, I just HAD to try this after seeing many Youtube videos (buldak bokkeum myun or fire noodle callenge) of people trying this ramen. I can take spice pretty well, but even then I was a bit scared to try this assuming it's probably a sadistically hot inedible product aspiring fame through people's agony. With the cooked ramyun bowl in front of me, I breathed in deep, meditated a little, and then took the first bite. I must say I was both disappointed and relieved at the same time. It was not nearly as spicy as I had expected, and it was quite tasty! The sauce flavor is akin to the popular Korean dish Ddukbokki, except it's a little more savory (chicken?) and spicier. The sweetness tapers down the level of spice, and I finished the bowl without flinching although my nose pooled sweat long afterwards. As for a relevant gauge, if you enjoy and can eat Buffalo Wild's "hot" wings, then you won't have trouble finishing this. I also noticed that many people prep this noodle incorrectly and comment that it lacks flavor. The noodles won't lack flavor if you don't dilute it down by cooking it like other common ramen noodles. I noticed there's no English instruction on the received product anywhere, so I decided to post the translated cooking instruction:1. Boil 3 cups (or more) of water, and then cook the noodles for 5 minutes.2. Drain water (leave about 8 spoons worth), add the packaged liquid hot sauce, and then return to stove to stir the noodles at low heat for about 30 seconds.3. Turn off the stove, then mix in the dry sesame/seaweed package with the noodles. On step 1, I've boiled for 4.5 minutes instead for firmer noodles.Step 2 is important - you should pretty much drain off most of the water you see using your fork/chopsticks as strainer as you pour off excess water off your cooking pot, and you should have just enough water hidden in noodles for a saucy consistency, not liquidy. Stirring on heat with the hot paste incorporates the flavor and thickens the sauce. If you end up with too much juice, raise the heat a bit and evaporate off the water until the sauce thickens. When properly prepared, the sauce should be thick enough to coat the noodles and allow the sesame seeds to stick to the lifted noodles.I noticed that my received product's expiration date was less than 6 months away (8/30/2015). I will have no trouble finishing the noodles before the expiration, but it can be off-putting to buy any almost expired product. I'm not sure what the usual expiration is for the ramyun given the inclusion of the liquid paste, but the noodles didn't smell stale nor rancid as I could usually tell from almost stale ramyun noodles. All in all, this was very worth a try to resolve my curiosity after laughing so much at Youtube people's reactions, and I feel superior and stronger!oh~~ my stomach is starting to burn...Update: Curiosity got me to try the more convenient cup ramyun version of this (my packs were gone too soon!), and I prefer these cooking packets hands down. The cup noodles are much thinner and less chewy, and you don't get as savory deeper taste attained by cooking the liquid paste with noodles. The cup version's instruction tells you to drain off all water before adding the flavor packets, so you're definitely supposed to consume these with practically no liquid. The thicker noodles in the cooking packs need help to infuse the flavor in the step #2 above (the reason to leave some water to cook off), and you get 140g instead of 70g (small cup) or 105g (big cup) instant versions. Besides the packs being much more affordable, you get more of it along with much better taste when you prepare it properly. Time to order some more...5Come for the heat, stay for the flavor.I admit I wanted to try this because of all of the "Fire Noodle" challenge videos but not because they were hot, because people kept complimenting them on how good they tasted. Well, they certainly are both spicy and delicious. These are not for anyone who can't tolerate spicy foods, they are much hotter than the usual spicy instant noodles on store shelves so don't even try it if you can't handle those. If you do like spice however, get these immediately. They've quickly become my favorite instant noodle. Apparently their flavor is based on a type of super-spicy fried chicken found in South Korea which I would love to try as the flavor is like nothing else I've ever had and is absolutely delicious.5/5 for my favorite instant noodle, I could eat these every day if it wouldn't kill me!5Spicy, But Worth It.Basically, this is a really good and tasty noodle pack. The down side is that it is very hot... worth it, but hot. I would compare the heat to hot Cheetos but a bit worse. I would say about 1.5x - 3x the heat of hot Cheetos. They are also addictive. I will probably buy these regularly. Have one once or twice a week. I can handle spice to a degree, and I do like spicy foods, but I am not immune like some lucky fellows are sadly.5If You Can Handle a Ghost Pepper This Is FineHaving seen videos of people trying these noodles on YouTube I had to investigate these noodles as I am a fan of spicy food. Packaging was easy to figure out as it is like most ramens. When eating it I only felt a big kick due to my going in with a dry mouth. After drinking water everything was fine. It does have some heat to it, but as stated if you can handle a raw ghost pepper you can handle this. These noodles had a slight sweetness to me, but the flavor was different and enjoyable. It gave me the sniffles from the heat, which I don t mind as I call them happy sniffles .Definitely worth a try if you love spicy stuff.5Best Ramen Yet!The best ramen I've had so far. I was expecting it to be a lot hotter, but it tasted really good. I'm looking forward to trying the 2x flavor. The spice was enough to make my lips tingle a little, but I was nowhere near gasping for breath like if I put to much Tabasco on something or eat some wasabi. I could have, but did not feel the need to add all the cayenne pepper I usually do (about 2 tbsp) to any other ramen I've eaten. I added pork and green onions and had to keep it warm longer than the package recommends the final cooking phase to last because the pork wasn't cooked yet. I do wish it was easier to cook. Like it came in a little tray and could be microwaved like some of the ramens I've had, but it is worth the trouble.5Yum!These noodles are quite spicy. To set the a baseline, I'm into eating Dave's insanity ghost pepper and habanero hot sauces. The noodles themselves are not on the Dave's insanity level, but the spicy kick is still quite potent. But, that's not to say there isn't any flavor. I also enjoy the taste as it is slightly sweet and somewhat smokey in flavor. The condiments are super simple - one pack of spicy sauce to mix and a pack of seaweed flakes and sesame seeds for topping. Highly recommended for those that enjoy spicier than normal foods.5
