Customer Reviews

Sip and Be Merry used to be amazing (update to my older review)Update to the review I left a year ago: Sip and be merry used to be my favorite tea. Ordered it again last month and was extremely disappointed. The new batch smells only of cardamom, no vanilla or caramel detected, and when brewed, it's pretty weak with the flavor of black tea plus subtle hints of cardamom. No bold complex flavor any more. Did they change the formula or just a bad batch???The old review:Sip and be Merry is my new favorite tea from the Republic of Tea. Very fragrant and very Christmasy. At first I thought it was a bit expensive at $15.99 per jar, but then I noticed that each contained 50 tea bags (unlike regular 36), so the price of each individual tea bag is pretty much the same.3Raspberry, not rose, flavorI love tea. I love Downton Abbey. And I love roses. What could go wrong? But this English Rose tea tastes mostly of raspberries. I think it's because Americans don't like to eat or drink things that taste like flowers. Pity. Flowers are great. I was hoping for a tea that actually tastes like roses. There are rose petals in the tea, but listed towards the end of the ingredients list. Rosehips (not the same flavor as rose) and raspberry are the dominant flavors. It's not a bad-tasting raspberry tea if you like fruity tea. I shall turn the tin into a coin bank when I'm done drinking it.3A very grown-up christmas blendI have seriously tried all of the Downton Abbey teas. This is by far my new favorite. I let it steep for 2 minutes and only add a tiny bit of Splenda to it. It's relaxinn, cozy and perfect for the cooler winter months. I actually purchased this as a little gift for my neighbor for the holidays.5Downton Abbey Mrs Patmore's Pudding TeaI received a free tea sampler recently with the purchase of one of Downton Abbey's DVDs. This particular tea is my favorite. It has a delicious aroma with just a hint of sweetness - caramel and vanilla. It's a great dessert tea or just an anytime tea. One can imagine sitting down in Mrs Patmore's busy kitchen drinking a cup of tea along with one of her delicious pudding desserts, This tea is wonderful with scones, muffins, biscotti or or other breakfast pastries. I'm hooked and ordered four tins to keep on hand at home and work. The tins keep the tea bags fresh and the tea itself comes in natural, unbleached round tea bags.5Heavenly! (So far)Since I ve only had this tea once, I may edit it if my opinion changes, but - wow the smell of this tea when you open the tin is heavenly! It smells rich and indulgent, vanilla and caramel definitely, but with some depth. I was worried when I started steeping it because all I was getting was a faint caramel smell, but after leaving it for 4 minutes and then trying the tea, the smell had a similar depth to when I d opened the tin. This tea is light, but that doesn t mean it s bad at all. In fact, the lightness makes this tea smooth and creamy even without milk. I was worried because sometimes the artificial caramel flavor doesn t work well with me, and sometimes a certain vanilla used in teas makes me nauseous, but this tea s flavors didn t taste artificial or too heady. The black tea base isn t bitter, and overall, this tea reminds me of the wintertime (which is perfect because it s been cold and rainy where I live recently). I m excited to try this again with some cream!EDIT: I tried this with cream, and I have to say, it doesn t add to the taste or creaminess to do so. The tea itself is so smooth, that cream just makes it milky, which I m not a fan of. Overall though, still wonderful, but it hasn t been the tea I ve been gravitating towards very often.4Nicely flavored black tea is a bit on the sweet sideI'm a daily user of teas from The Republic of Tea. I usually stick with their various green teas, but occasionally feel the need for a black tea for its more robust flavor and higher caffeine level. While I do like spiced teas, I don't like them when their natural flavorings bring out too much sweetness in the tea since I prefer my tea (and coffee) unsweetened. This one has a very nice flavor, but is *almost* at the point where it's too sweet for me (although not as sweet as some of their other flavored teas). I think the ingredient culprit for me is the natural caramel flavoring--and possibly the vanilla-- because it adds a great deal of sweetness to the tea in addition to the actual flavor. My preference is one that is simply a spiced tea, but I've had trouble finding a spiced black tea minus the caramel and vanilla. The Republic of Tea has a green rooibos tea called Get Burning that I love as a spicy--but not too sweet--blend. It has spices like ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, and cloves as well as chili peppers to give it some more oomph. I don't think it does much to increase metabolism (like it claims), but I think it's delicious and wish they made a black tea blend with similar ingredients. For those people who like a bit of sweetness to their spiced black tea, this Sip and Be Merry Holiday tea is probably a very good choice. The small, round tea bags come with no attached strings or tags. I'm fine with that because everything is biodegradable and can be tossed in the compost bins.Ingredients: Black tea, sweet blackberry leaves, natural caramel and vanilla flavors and cardamom seeds4Tastes like black tea with fake vanillaDoes This taste like cake of any kind or pudding? No it does not. Not at all; not in any way, shape or form. Does it taste like good Madagascar vanilla? No, it does not. Does it taste like actual caramel, no it does not. It tastes like black tea, maybe a little like roobios, and that typical fake vanilla flavor, but the flavor you get in higher quality black teas. I was very disappointed because I really wanted it to taste like something special, something Mrs. Patmore would make, Or at least some kind of special dessert, or at least something with some kind of complex flavor. Believe me, this is very fair review and I drink a lot of tea. Is it good? Yes. It s fine, it s just ok.3Delicious TeaDownTown Abby English Rose Tea. This tea is delicious one of my favorites! Mostly tastes like vanilla and hibiscus. The tea has a sweet taste and is pink in color. Nice light fragrance. Their are NO staples in the round tea bags. The Republic of Tea is the brand. Highly Recommend.Ingredients:Hibiscus, rosehip peels, apples, stevia, natural raspberry, natural rose and vanilla flavors, and rose petals5Mrs. Patmore's Pudding TeaAs soon as I saw that The Republic of Tea had a Downton Abbey themed line of tea, I knew I had to buy at least one to try. I chose Mrs. Patmore's Pudding Tea. It's labeled as a "decadent dessert tea," something you'd have after dinner in place of that favorite slice of cake, cookie, or brownie (or maybe even coupled with one of these). Honestly, dessert tea is not something I'd had before. I'm used to sweet tea (living in the South), green tea, and some herbal teas. So, this was my very first experience, and I have to say, I'll be drinking it again.Let's start with the packaging. It's pretty straightforward: there's a gold-colored lid that pops off. Inside are 36 tea bags. The great thing about The Republic of Tea is they package their teas in airtight tins. When you're finished with said tea, instead of throwing away the tin, you can purchase refills at a lower price than what it'd cost to buy a new tin. Plus, who doesn't want a cute tea tin in their house, especially one inspired by Downton Abbey? The tea bags themselves are unbleached sacks, free of any envelopes, tags, strings, or staples. The Republic of Tea prides themselves on being certified gluten-free, and the majority of their teas are carb-free, sugar-free, and non-GMO. Their tea leaves are of the highest quality, and are grown on tea plantations around the world. The actual drinking experience was enjoyable. A sweet aroma left my cup before I ever took a sip. Mrs. Patmore's Pudding Tea is supposed to taste like vanilla sponge cake drizzled in a rich caramel sauce. I had read that a splash of milk in this tea is amazing, but honestly, I haven't tried it yet. Definitely next time, though!4Delicious!This tea is so tasty, I'm going to buy more, so I can have it all year long. It's a careful blend of black tea, cardamom, cinnamon and vanilla, so that you get a whisper of each, but nothing is too overwhelming. And if you add milk to it, according to my mom, it really does taste like creme brulee. I can understand why it would be marketed as a holiday tea, but truthfully, I'd drink it all year long, because it's just so soothing and nice. I hope you like it as much as I do.5
